Andy was, for more years than he cares to remember, a specialist occupational hygiene inspector with HSE, mainly based in Bootle HQ. He dabbled in many aspects of chemical and substance exposure and control in those HSE roles. In 2011 Andy left HSE and moved to work at the European Chemicals gency (ECHA) in Helsinki providing specialist support on exposure within REACH. He (sort of) retired from that role in 2016, returning to the UK where he now turns his hand to expert witness work, much of which is related to asbestos. Andy realises everyone has heard of REACH, but not so many in hygiene understand the process managed by ECHA. There are some issues over the role of exposure assessment under REACH and then the interactions between REACH and Occupational Health and Safety Legislation that benefit from a little exploration.
